Methodology

How SlabSniper estimates grade.

We don't guess. Here's exactly what the AI is doing under the hood when you paste a listing.

01
Reads every photo
Each listing photo is sent to a multimodal AI vision model. The model looks at the same four sub-grades a PSA grader checks: centering, corners, edges, and surface — plus an overall eye-appeal read.
02
Scores against PSA standards
Each sub-grade is rated on the 1–10 scale PSA uses. Poor centering (e.g. 65/35) caps the overall projection; soft corners or print lines drop it further. The overall grade is bounded by the worst sub-grade.
03
Reports a confidence score
Blurry photos, missing back shots, or glare knock the confidence percentage down. High confidence means the photos actually showed the AI enough to judge; low confidence means treat the estimate as a rough read.
04
Flags already-slabbed cards
If the card is already in a PSA/BGS/SGC holder, we detect it and tell you — SlabSniper is for evaluating raw cards before submission, not cross-grading slabs.

Important: AI pre-grading from photos is a decision aid, not a replacement for a physical inspection. Lighting, camera quality, and listing photo angles all affect the read. Use the projected grade + confidence together — and always double-check pricing with the comp buttons before you buy.

SlabSniper doesn't grade cards — PSA does. We surface AI estimates and point you at real comps. The final call is always yours.
